Solving Hikvision DVR Resolution or Bit Rate Limit Error

When adding a new camera to a Hikvision DVR, you may encounter an error saying “Resolution or Bit Rate Limit Reached”. Here’s how to solve it.

Device Information

  • DVR Model: Hikvision DS-7808N-M1
  • Camera Model: Hikvision 6MP Full-Color Camera

Problem Description

When I first connected the camera, I couldn’t see the feed on the EZVIZ app. I checked the DVR and noticed the newly added camera showed a red X. Hovering over it displayed the error message “Resolution or Bit Rate Limit Reached”.

Solution

After discussing with DeepSeek, I learned that this DVR model supports a maximum of 4MP camera input. The solution requires two steps:

  1. Log into the camera and change its output resolution to 4MP
  2. In the DVR settings, set the camera’s password to match the actual camera password (it defaults to having no password)

Both steps must be completed for the camera to work properly.

Summary

I contacted the Hikvision customer service on Pinduoduo, and they said it couldn’t be used. Their professional level is really lacking. Fortunately, I was able to figure it out myself.
